“My goal as an artist has always been two sided. On one hand, I want to create works that are meaningful and visceral, that help me to communicate and to connect with my community. On the other, I want to experience the profound satisfaction of creating something functional and fun and holding it in my hands.

“When I think about it, there’s a parallel in these two ideas. I want to make art that brings out the inner animal, and I want to make crafts that bring out the inner child. I don't think those two are strangers.”
